As part of its drive to close the infrastructure financing gap across Africa and the Caribbean, Afreximbank and the Afreximbank Academy (AFRACAD) hosted the second edition of its Project Finance Workshop in Cairo bringing together key players from across the project finance ecosystem to strengthen capacity and accelerate sustainable development.
Launched in 2023 as a biennial initiative, the workshop forms a core part of Afreximbank’s strategy to empower stakeholders with practical tools to navigate complex project finance transactions. This year’s theme, “Addressing Key Challenges in Structuring and Attaining Financial Close on Project Finance Transactions,” focused on unlocking bankable projects by building technical expertise and fostering collaboration.
The event convened a dynamic mix of participants, including representatives from government ministries, DFIs, commercial banks, project developers, contractors, legal and advisory firms. Notable institutions included the Egyptian Ministry of Finance, Commercial International Bank (CIB), Standard Chartered Egypt, Orascom Construction, Infinity Power, Taqa Arabia, Enara Group, EEHC, and United Media Services.
Interactive sessions covered critical areas such as project finance risk assessment, syndication strategies, and environmental, technical, legal, and insurance due diligence. Speakers included industry leaders from Etasca UK, Petrenel UK, Willis Towers Watson, White & Case UK, and Afreximbank’s own Syndications and Risk Distribution team.
Through this platform, Afreximbank continues to shape the future of infrastructure finance translating knowledge into action, and driving the partnerships and innovation needed to power the continent and the Caribbean forward.
We extend our appreciation to all participants and partners who contributed to this impactful convening and look ahead to future editions that will continue building a pipeline of well-structured, transformative projects.
