General Motors (GM) Egypt is proud to announce the production of the all-new 2025 Chevrolet Optra out of their 6th of October manufacturing plant, which recently celebrated being the first manufacturing plant to produce 1 million vehicles in Egypt.

The All-new Optra is a mainstream passenger car designed to meet global quality standards while showcasing the power of local engineering and manufacturing. As a key player in Egypt’s automotive sector, GM Egypt has continued to demonstrate its commitment to innovation and excellence, further cementing its role as a leader in the country’s automotive landscape.

Sharon Nishi, Chair & Managing Director at GM Egypt & North Africa, said: “In line with Egypt’s vision to develop the local automotive industry, at GM Egypt, we have invested over $20 million to enhance our local manufacturing capabilities by adding new equipment and technology. This includes a new, innovative error-proofing technology to cater to the new passenger car program to ensure further safety and quality.”
With the full support of the government’s Automotive Industry Development Program (AIDP), GM Egypt became the first company to register under this initiative.

“This collaboration reflects our strong partnership with the Egyptian government toward enhancing the automotive ecosystem, promoting sustainable economic growth, and creating new job opportunities in the country. In fact, GM Egypt has increased its manufacturing workforce by almost 30% to support the new passenger car program and growth plans,” continued Nishi.

The Optra has undergone rigorous validation in global testing labs and was put through its paces for six months on Egyptian roads, ensuring it is ready to take on local driving conditions. With the Chevrolet Optra comprising a high level of local vehicle components, leveraging our local Egyptian supplier partners. GM Egypt is also introducing new commodities localized for the Egyptian market within this mainstream passenger car, further helping to industrialize Egypt.
