Through localization, knowledge transfer, and investment in talent, we are empowering a next generation of Egyptian engineers and positioning Egypt as a leading hub for regional innovation.”
For over four decades, Alstom has been at the heart of Egypt’s mobility transformation, delivering trains, signalling, and infrastructure that move millions daily. The company’s enduring partnership with the Ministry of Transport continues to transform a national dream into a daily reality.
The Cairo Monorail, Africa’s first and the world’s longest driverless monorail system, stands as a symbol of what collaboration and innovation can achieve. The project significantly enhances connectivity, sharply reducing travel times, easing traffic congestion by reducing the volume of vehicles on major routes which affect positively the environment by mitigating millions of tons of CO2 emissions. Beyond infrastructure, the project creates thousands of local jobs, builds national expertise, and delivers cleaner air for millions of Egyptians.
Alstom’s commitment to Egypt extends far beyond project delivery. Through initiatives such as the Egyptian Railway Academy (ERA) – launched at COP27 – the company continues to invest in Egyptian talent and build national capabilities. Hundreds of young engineers are being trained in world-class rail systems, ensuring the future of Egypt’s transport sector is designed and operated by Egyptians, for Egyptians.
In parallel, Alstom’s Cairo Engineering Center has evolved into a regional hub of excellence, exporting Egyptian expertise to projects in Morocco, Algeria, Tanzania, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia—cementing Egypt’s position as a strategic centre for mobility innovation across Africa and the Middle East.
Alstom’s new 12-hectare Industrial Complex in Borg Al Arab marks a major step in localizing rail manufacturing and technology. Dedicated to producing train components and electrical systems for both local and export markets, the facility embodies Alstom’s belief in Egypt’s potential as a regional manufacturing and innovation hub. More than an investment in infrastructure, it represents an investment in people, skills, and long-term economic growth.
Alstom is committed to shaping Egypt’s sustainable mobility future, aligning with the nation’s vision for a cleaner and smarter tomorrow. Together, we are transforming transportation and enhancing the quality of life for millions as we build a connected and innovative Egypt.
