Raya Trade and Distribution, a subsidiary of Raya Holding for Financial Investments, has received a new certification from “E‑Tadweer,” the implementing partner of the One Circle initiative for electronic waste recycling (under the supervision of UNIDO, Egypt’s Ministry of Environment, and the Waste Management Regulatory Authority). The certification was granted after Raya Trade collected 966.4 kilograms of e‑waste from its Zahraa El Maadi headquarters for safe disposal. The waste was processed through licensed facilities approved by the Ministry of Environment, preventing 1,920.32 kilograms of carbon dioxide emissions—nearly two metric tons.
This latest recognition builds on Raya’s earlier achievement, when the company was certified for recycling 708 kilograms of e‑waste, offsetting 826.92 kilograms of carbon emissions. Altogether, Raya Trade and Distribution has recycled 1,674.4 kilograms of e‑waste (about 1.67 tons), reducing total carbon emissions by 2,747.24 kilograms (roughly 2.75 tons).
The milestone deepens Raya Trade’s strategic alliance with E‑Tadweer and underscores its resolve to put e‑waste management at the center of its sustainability agenda. Guided by a vision to balance commercial growth with Egypt’s Sustainable Development Goals, the company is also advancing the nation’s Climate Change Strategy 2050.
As part of this ongoing collaboration, Raya Electronics—another subsidiary of Raya Trade and Distribution—recently took part in “Waste to Charity”, a campaign organized by “E‑Tadweer” and the Hayah Karima Foundation at Cairo’s Greek Campus during Ramadan. The initiative aimed to raise awareness about turning e‑waste into tangible social value. Participants were encouraged to hand in broken or repairable devices in exchange for shopping vouchers provided by Raya Electronics. Refurbished devices were then donated to establish two computer labs in a village in Dakahlia Governorate, opening new opportunities for digital literacy and education. The event also promoted sustainable disposal practices, with more than 2,000 QR code scans introducing attendees to the One Circle program.
The partnership between Raya Trade and Distribution and “E‑Tadweer” dates back to the launch of Egypt’s presidential “Go Green” initiative in 2021, when Raya Electronics dedicated its branch network in Cairo and Giza to collecting end‑of‑life electronics. The effort reflects a belief that embedding recycling culture is a shared responsibility across individuals and institutions. While “E‑Tadweer” oversees the collection, transport, and safe disposal of e‑waste, Raya Trade actively participates in the presidential One Circle initiative in cooperation with UNIDO, the Ministry of Environment, and the Waste Management Regulatory Authority.
