In line with the Egyptian government’s directives to establish new glass manufacturing facilities aimed at bridging the domestic production gap and enhancing local manufacturing as part of the national strategy to localize advanced technology industries, Dr. Greiche Group has announced an investment of EGP 500 million (approximately USD 10 million) in the development of a new industrial complex specialized in automotive glass production.

Spanning 25,000 square meters, the new facility will extend the company’s existing operations in 10th of Ramadan City and is set to become the most advanced of its kind in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region by 2026.

This strategic move marks a key step toward localizing automotive manufacturing in Egypt and further solidifies Dr. Greiche Group’s leading position in the MENA region. The company is poised to meet growing demand from Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) across local, regional, and international markets.

Production at the new facility is scheduled to begin in Q4 of 2026 and will provide a major boost to the automotive sector in Egypt and beyond, addressing current shortages in essential glass components.

Engineer Chahir Greiche, CEO at Dr. Greiche Group, stated that the new facility will be equipped with state-of-the-art production lines and smart technologies sourced from Italy, Spain, Switzerland, and China. These technologies will enable thermal processing of automotive glass in accordance with the highest global quality standards.

Among the cutting-edge technologies being introduced to the region for the first time are Digital printing for OEM demands, and spherical and thermal treatment technology capable of processing ultra-thin glass with thicknesses as slim as 2.1 mm—now increasingly used in electric vehicles to reduce weight and energy consumption.

On the employment front, Eng. Chahir confirmed that the new facility will directly create over 500 jobs for engineers, technicians, and administrative professionals, along with approximately 150 indirect job opportunities—contributing to national development and local community growth.

“This new plant will double our Backlight annual production capacity, enabling us to produce a total of one million rear windshields annually,” Eng. Greiche said. “This development will allow us to fully meet the needs of global automotive manufacturers, particularly in supplying thermal glass for the rear and side windows of buses of various sizes”.

He added that approximately 50% of the factory’s output will serve Egypt’s domestic market from OEM’s and replacement market, while the remainder will be exported to support Dr. Greiche Clients in Europe, the United States, and the Gulf Region—with high readiness and a wide variety of models available.

Dr. Greiche Group also aims to manufacture innovative types of glass that have never been produced in the MENA region before, including thermal roofs for modern vehicle and complex rear glass panels that require advanced processing capabilities such as “Solar” glass. This aligns with the rising global demand for eco-friendly green transportation solutions and thermal-insulating glass.

In conclusion, Eng. Greiche emphasized that the new facility will play a pivotal role in supporting the local automotive installation market and supplying the company’s network of branches and authorized distributors. It is expected to significantly reduce current import levels, ease pressure on foreign currency reserves, and support Egypt’s self-sufficiency in strategic industries.

This investment reflects Egypt’s broader vision to localize the automotive industry as a national priority—fostering economic growth, empowering local capital, and expanding the global presence of Egyptian-made product
