Minister inaugurates talabat’s largest MENA distribution center

On behalf of H.E. Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, H.E. Eng. Raafat Hindy, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, officially inaugurated talabat’s largest quick commerce distribution center in the Middle East and North Africa. The launch marks a significant step in advancing Egypt’s digital economy and strengthening its logistics infrastructure.

The inauguration was attended by H.E. Eng. Raafat Hindi, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, alongside H.E. Mr. Ahmed Kouchouk, Minister of Finance, H.E. Dr. Mohamed Farid Saleh, Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade, and H.E. Eng. Khaled Hashem, Minister of Industry, in addition to senior government officials and the company’s strategic partners – Underscoring the project’s significance as a key pillar in supporting the quick commerce sector in the Egyptian market.

The new distribution center, developed in partnership with Hassan Allam Utilities, is located within the “Yanmu East” logistics hub on the Cairo–Suez Road. Spanning approximately 27,000 square meters, the facility has an operational capacity of up to 1 million items per day. It currently serves 100% of talabat Mart’s network across 12 cities, with plans to expand to 17 cities in the near future.

The facility operates on fully integrated, real-time systems that connect inventory management, store operations, and replenishment processes, ensuring speed and operational efficiency. It also leverages in-house AI models to forecast demand, optimize stock allocation, and automate replenishment; enhancing accuracy, responsiveness, and efficiency while minimizing waste across the network.

The center has been designed as a future-ready logistics asset, leveraging advanced technology to maximize vertical space utilization. It offers a storage capacity of approximately 75,000 pallet positions; reflecting the adoption of the latest global standards and best practices in the quick commerce sector.

Commenting on the inauguration, Toon Gyssels, CEO of talabat, said: “This project represents a significant milestone for us in Egypt and across the region. It enables us to operate with greater reliability, improve product availability for customers, and support our partners at scale. As quick commerce continues to grow, this type of infrastructure is essential for building a more consistent and scalable operating model.”

Eng. Mohamed Sakkina, Regional Director of talabat Mart, added:”This distribution center represents a core pillar in strengthening talabat Mart’s operations in Egypt. Our investment in advanced technology reflects our commitment to enhancing operational efficiency and delivering a faster, more reliable customer experience. This is not just a storage facility; it is a smart infrastructure that is redefining quick commerce in Egypt in line with global standards.”

As talabat continues to expand its grocery and retail services, this distribution center provides the essential infrastructure needed to support local producers, suppliers, and merchants; enabling them to grow and scale their businesses. At the same time, it enhances customer value by offering greater convenience, improved accessibility, and more competitive pricing.

It is worth noting that talabat’s operations in Egypt represent a major regional talent hub, employing approximately 3,100 people nationwide. Of these, around 1,600 employees support talabat’s eight markets across the region through its technology and shared services center in Egypt, leveraging cross-border talent.

Today, Egypt-based cross-border teams deliver approximately 74% of the company’s shared services, while also contributing significantly to the development of key user-facing features across the region. This highlights Egypt’s pivotal role in driving innovation and advancing digital product development across the talabat ecosystem.
